Salt Precipitation from Concentrated Media Stocks

Symptom
Concentrated media stocks (10x or higher) show salt precipitates particularly after refrigeration. Precipitates may redissolve upon warming but can lead to inaccurate final concentrations if not properly managed.
Common Causes
  1. 1 Decreased solubility of salts at refrigeration temperatures (2-8°C)
  2. 2 Supersaturation of salt components in concentrated stocks
  3. 3 Temperature-dependent solubility of phosphate and bicarbonate salts
  4. 4 Storage of concentrated stocks without adequate mixing before use
Solutions
  1. 1 Warm refrigerated concentrated stocks to room temperature before use
  2. 2 Mix thoroughly to ensure complete redissolution of any precipitates
  3. 3 Store concentrated stocks at temperatures recommended by manufacturer
  4. 4 Prepare working concentrations fresh when possible to avoid storage issues
