Steps
1
Introduction and tumor assessment
Overview of the patient-derived xenograft harvesting procedure and examination of the euthanized animal with a large breast cancer tumor graft in the mammary fat pad.
▶ 00:02
2
Sterilize surgical site with ethanol
Spray the tumor area with 70% ethanol to maintain sterility during the dissection procedure.
▶ 00:31
3
Excise external skin and expose tumor
Use sterile forceps and scissors to cut away the external skin surrounding the tumor to reveal the bulk of the tumor tissue.
▶ 01:20
4
Remove internal tumor tissue
Use additional sterile utensils to carefully dissect and isolate the internal tumor from surrounding tissue.
▶ 02:00
5
Process tumor for storage or transplantation
Select downstream processing options including cryopreservation, freezing, formalin fixation, or sectioning tumor chunks for direct transplantation into recipient animals.
