3D-Neuronavigation In Vivo Through a Patient's Brain During a Spontaneous Migraine Headache

DOI: 10.3791/50682-v
What you'll learn
  • Understand 3D-immersive neuronavigation techniques for in vivo brain imaging
  • Interpret μ-opioid system changes during spontaneous migraine attacks
  • Apply integrated MRI/PET imaging for clinical neurological assessment
Protocol

Biopharma Insights In this study, the authors report for the first time a novel 3D-Immersive & Interactive Neuronavigation (3D-IIN) through the impact of a spontaneous migraine headache attack in the μ-opioid system of a patient's brain in vivo.

Difficulty
advanced
Total time
~2–4 hours (single patient migraine imaging session, including MRI/PET acquisition and 3D reconstruction)

Steps

1
Acquire MRI and ictal PET imaging during migraine

Perform simultaneous MRI and positron emission tomography scanning during an active spontaneous migraine headache attack to capture acute neurobiological changes in the patient's brain.

▶ 02:44
2
Reconstruct 3D neuronavigation from imaging data

Process and integrate MRI and PET data into a 3D volumetric reconstruction suitable for interactive neuronavigation visualization.

▶ 05:50
3
Perform 3D-immersive interactive neuronavigation analysis

Navigate through the reconstructed 3D brain volume interactively to visualize μ-opioid system activation patterns and regional neurochemical changes during the migraine event.

▶ 07:47
4
Document in vivo migraine neurochemical profiles

Record and characterize the spatial distribution of μ-opioid receptor engagement and related brain activity patterns observed during the spontaneous migraine attack.
