Protocol

This protocol describes the porcine myocardial infarction (MI) model using a 90 min closed-chest coronary balloon occlusion of the left anterior descending artery (LAD), followed by reperfusion. Furthermore, the protocol for several outcome parameters, such as cardiac function, hemodynamics, microvascular resistance, and infarct size, are also presented.

Perform transthoracic echocardiography baseline assessment

Obtain baseline cardiac imaging and functional parameters using ultrasound before intervention.

Prepare surgical site and establish vascular access

Perform sterile preparation, cannulate femoral artery and vein for catheter-based intervention and monitoring.

Conduct invasive pressure-volume loop analysis

Insert conductance catheter into left ventricle to measure real-time pressure and volume dynamics.

Measure intracoronary pressure and flow parameters

Deploy pressure-temperature sensor wire in left anterior descending artery to quantify coronary hemodynamics.

Induce myocardial infarction via LAD occlusion

Position balloon catheter at LAD and perform 90 minutes of closed-chest coronary occlusion followed by reperfusion.
