DOI: 10.3791/3971-v
What you'll learn
  • Perform surgical preparation of mice for video-oculography measurement
  • Set up and calibrate video pupil tracking equipment for eye movement analysis
  • Collect and analyze quantitative ocular motor performance data
  • Interpret video-oculography results to assess motor learning and behavior
Protocol

Biopharma Insights Video-oculography is a very quantitative method to investigate ocular motor performance as well as motor learning. Here, we describe how to measure video-oculography in mice. Applying this technique on normal, pharmacologically-treated or genetically modified mice is a powerful research tool to explore the underlying physiology of motor behaviors.

Steps

1
Perform mouse surgery for video-oculography

Conduct surgical preparation of mice to enable video-oculography measurement. This involves preparation procedures necessary for subsequent ocular tracking.

2
Assemble and configure video-oculography equipment

Set up the video-oculography apparatus including optical and recording components. Position and align the system for accurate eye movement tracking.

▶ 02:51
3
Calibrate pupil tracking and record eye movements

Perform system calibration using video pupil tracking and execute baseline eye movement measurements. Verify tracking accuracy before data collection.

▶ 05:20
4
Process and analyze video-oculography data

Extract quantitative metrics from recorded eye movement videos. Compute parameters relevant to ocular motor performance and motor learning.

▶ 06:46
5
Interpret video-oculography results and outcomes

Review analyzed data to assess ocular motor performance and identify changes in motor behavior. Compare results across experimental conditions or genotypes.
