2
Insert the fractional column
Remove the glass wool plug from the fractional column containing glass beads and insert the column into the round bottom flask. Leave the column open to air without attaching water hoses.

3
Assemble the distillation apparatus
Connect the three-way adapter, thermometer adapter, and condenser to the top of the fractional column. Ensure the entire vertical setup is properly aligned and secure all clamps tightly.

4
Connect water flow and heating
Turn on the heating mantle and water circulation, ensuring water flows in through the bottom of the condenser and drains into the sink. Verify that the condenser connection is tight.

5
Monitor the distillation process
Observe the liquid boiling vigorously in the flask and watch for drips forming in the receiving flask. Check the fractional column for moisture and condensation as separation occurs.

6
Troubleshoot excessive boiling
If the liquid spits up and splashes toward the condenser, lower the heating mantle to reduce heat and calm the boiling. The process continues normally despite minor splattering.
