Steps
1
Understand vacuum filtration principles
Learn the advantages of vacuum filtration over gravity filtration, including faster separation and partial product drying. Understand the equipment needed: Buchner funnel, sidearm flask, and rubber stopper.

2
Prepare filter paper for funnel
Lay oversized filter paper flat and center the Buchner funnel cup on top. Fold up the sides of the filter paper and use the stem to create distinct creases that define the paper to the funnel shape.

3
Adapt filter paper to funnel cup
Carefully position the creased filter paper into the cup of the Buchner funnel, ensuring it conforms to all contours and covers all drainage holes completely.

4
Assemble filtration apparatus
Clamp the sidearm flask to a ring stand for stability using a clamp. Insert the assembled Buchner funnel into the flask using a rubber stopper to secure it firmly at the top.
▶ 02:30
5
Connect vacuum and initiate filtration
Attach the vacuum hose to the sidearm flask. Turn on the vacuum and wet the filter paper with excess wash solvent to adapt it fully to the funnel and ensure all holes are covered.

6
Begin product filtration
With the filter paper fully adapted and all holes covered, introduce your product to the Buchner funnel and begin the vacuum filtration process.
